There are many histologic types of gynecologic malignancies. I reviewed three rare ovarian tumor types that have poor prognoses. Ovarian mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma (MLA) is a newly described histological type known for its aggressive behavior.

Background: The relationship between patient nutritional, immune, and inflammatory status is linked to tumor progression and prognosis. However, there are limited studies on the prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) after surgery based on the comprehensive indicators of these factors.
Aim: To develop and validate a novel nomogram based on a nutritional immune-inflammatory status (NIIS) score for predicting postoperative outcomes in ESCC.

Podophyllotoxin, along with its numerous derivatives and related compounds, is well known for its broad-spectrum pharmacological activity, especially for anticancer potential. In this study, several isatin-podophyllotoxin hybrid compounds were successfully synthesized with good yields through microwave-prompted three-component reactions of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone, various substituted isatins, and tetronic acid. Their cytotoxicity was assessed against four types of human cancer cell lines, HepG2 (hepatoma carcinoma), MCF7 (breast cancer), A549 (non-small lung cancer), and KB (epidermoid carcinoma), alongside nontumorigenic HEK-293 human embryonic kidney cells.

Macrophages are crucial immune cells within the tumor microenvironment (TME), involved in regulating tumor proliferation, invasion, metastasis, ECM remodeling, angiogenesis, and immunosuppression. Although more and more experimental evidence and clinical data indicate that macrophages are involved in the onset and progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the exact pathogenesis of OSCC associated with macrophages has not been fully elucidated. Enhanced knowledge of the molecular mechanisms involving macrophages in OSCC will aid in the creation of treatments targeted specifically at macrophages.

Aim: This study aims to create and validate a novel systematic immune-inflammation-nutrition (SIIN) score to provide a non-invasive and accurate prognostic tool for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients.
Methods: 259 participants diagnosed with HNSCC from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University between 2008 and 2017 was included in this retrospective study. Patients were assigned to training (n=181) and validation (n=78) sets.
