Background: Decisions made for anti-reflux surgery can be guided by both EndoFLIP™ measurement of lower esophageal sphincter (LES) distensibility index (DI) and esophageal manometric measurement of lower esophageal function, but the exact nature of their relationship to one another is unknown despite serving similar purposes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between pre-operative LES basal mean pressure with esophageal manometry and intraoperative gastroesophageal DI using EndoFLIP™ following crural dissection to aid in informing surgeons' decision-making during anti-reflux surgery.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease who underwent preoperative esophageal manometry evaluation and anti-reflux surgery with EndoFLIP™ intraoperatively between December 2020 and January 2024.

Background: The intercondylar space is defined as the topographic area walled by the intercondylar notch (IN) and encasing the central ligaments of the knee joint. As the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is not only impinged against the roof but also against the lateral wall of the IN, information concerning changes to the IN during the progression of osteoarthritis could be potentially relevant in predicting the future risk for ACL-rupture and -degeneration and ensure preventive measures as early as possible. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of osteoarthritis on osseous notch morphology.

The word "rhythmic" was quickly introduced in the vocabulary of the electroencephalographers with the discovery of the alpha rhythm and typical discharges of spike-and-waves at 3 Hz in childhood absence epilepsy, but without any definition until recently. In its last revision (2017), the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology proposed a specific definition. The word "rhythmic" is "applied to regular waves occurring at a constant period and of relatively uniform morphology.

The identification of the Purkinje conduction system in the heart is a challenging task, yet essential for a correct definition of cardiac digital twins for precision cardiology. Here, we propose a probabilistic approach for identifying the Purkinje network from non-invasive clinical data such as the standard electrocardiogram (ECG). We use cardiac imaging to build an anatomically accurate model of the ventricles; we algorithmically generate a rule-based Purkinje network tailored to the anatomy; we simulate physiological electrocardiograms with a fast model; we identify the geometrical and electrical parameters of the Purkinje-ECG model with Bayesian optimization and approximate Bayesian computation.

Relaxin in pregnancy: a narrative review of a pleiotropic molecule.

Minerva Obstet Gynecol

Unit of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences for Mothers, Children and Adults, Policlinic University Hospital, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy.

Introduction: Relaxin is a hormone primarily produced by the corpus luteum during pregnancy, and it plays a critical role in various physiological processes related to pregnancy and childbirth.

Evidence Acquisition: Studies have suggested a possible link between relaxin levels and preterm birth. Relaxin's effects on the cervix and pelvic ligaments suggest it could influence the mode of delivery.
