This study presents a comprehensive examination of the physiological adaptations of white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) to low-salinity conditions and evaluates the effects of supplementing dietary glucose on disease resistance. Compared to the control group, shrimp cultured at a salinity of 4 psu exhibit significantly elevated expression levels of adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in the hepatopancreas, which leads to increased energy expenditure and a corresponding reduction in resistance to infection by Vibrio alginolyticus. The suppression of AMPK via dsAMPK treatment markedly enhances disease resistance.

Background: Presently, the mitigation and governance of obesity have surfaced as significant public health dilemmas on a global scale. A wealth of studies indicated that the host gut microbiota is instrumental in regulating the interplay between high-fat diet (HFD) intake and the pathogenesis of obesity. Physiological premature fruit drop, a major byproduct of citrus, is rich in a variety of bioactive constituents, yet its potential has remained underutilized for an extended period.

Reliable and streamlined model setup for digital twin assessment of fracture healing.

Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics, Lehigh University, 27 Memorial Drive West, Bethlehem, PA 18015, USA. Electronic address:

In large animal models of bone fracture repair, postmortem torsional testing is commonly used to assess healing biomechanics. Bending and axial tests are physiologically relevant, but much less commonly performed. Virtual torsional testing using image-based finite element models has been validated to postmortem bench tests, but its predictive value for capturing whole-bone mechanics and fracture healing quality under other physiologically relevant loading modes has not yet been established.

State Key Laboratory for Managing Biotic and Chemical Threats to the Quality and Safety of Agro-products, Key Laboratory of Livestock and Poultry Resources (Poultry) Evaluation and Utilization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Institute of Animal Science & Veterinary, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hangzhou 310021, PR China; Xianghu Laboratory, Hangzhou, 311231, PR China. Electronic address:

This study investigates the effects of combined compound acidifiers and plant essential oils on the production performance, egg quality, and health parameters of Xianjv chickens. A total of 240 healthy 34-week-old Xianjv chickens were randomly divided into 5 groups and given 5 different feed additives: a control group with a basal diet, and four experimental groups with varying doses of compound acidifiers (CA) and essential oils (EO). The results revealed that the addition of compound acidifiers and essential oils did not significantly affect average daily feed intake, egg production rate, or feed-to-egg ratio.
