Melatonin is a pineal hormone synthesized exclusively at night, in several organisms. Its action on sperm is of particular interest, since they transfer genetic and epigenetic information to the offspring, including microRNAs, configuring a mechanism of paternal epigenetic inheritance. MicroRNAs are known to participate in a wide variety of mechanisms in basically all cells and tissues, including the brain and the sperm cells, which are known, respectively, to present 70% of all identified microRNAs and to transfer these molecules to the embryo.

Based on previous research, it's unclear about the signaling pathway involved in the negative regulation of T-lymphocyte proliferation in thymus by monochromatic red light. Newly hatched chicks were randomly assigned divided into white (WL), red (RL), green (GL), and blue (BL) light treatments. Three days later, each light treatment group was further divided into intact, sham operation, and pinealectomy groups.

In the search for Alzheimer's disease (AD) therapies, most animal models focus on familial AD, which accounts for a small fraction of cases. The majority of AD cases arise from stress factors, such as oxidative stress, leading to neurological changes (sporadic AD). Early in AD progression, dysfunction in γ-secretase causes the formation of insoluble Aβ peptides, which aggregate into senile plaques, triggering neurodegeneration, cognitive decline, and circadian rhythm disturbances.

Melatonin influences arterial biomechanics, and its absence could cause remodeling of the arterial wall, leading to increased stiffness. Direct effects of fentanyl on the aortic wall have also been observed previously. This study aimed to evaluate in vitro the effects of fentanyl on aortic viscoelasticity in a rat model of melatonin deficiency and to test the hypothesis that melatonin deficiency leads to increased arterial wall stiffness.

Introduction: Melatonin (MEL) is a crucial neuroendocrine hormone primarily produced by the pineal gland. Pinealectomy (PINX) has been performed on an endogenous MEL deficiency model to investigate the functions of pineal MEL and its relationship with various diseases. However, the effect of PINX on the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) MEL levels and gut microbiome in pigs has not been previously reported.
