Intravenous doses of amantadine hydrochloride, an antiviral drug, as small as 0.08 milligram per kilogram may release dopamine and other catecholamines from neuronal storage sites in dogs primed with dopamine. This release may account for the reported efficacy of amantadine hydrochloride in the treatment of human parkinsonism.

Supramolecular fluorescent materials with switchable behavior and induced luminescence enhancement are a new class of special materials for constructing fluorescence anti-counterfeiting materials. Since these materials are constructed by self-assembly through supramolecular host-guest interactions of non-covalent bonds, such fluorescent materials can regulate their optical properties through a reversible assembly-disassembly process. Inspired by the role of the β-barrel scaffold in activating strong fluorescence of a green fluorescent protein (GFP) chromophore, we designed a supramolecular system based on a novel GFP analogue (CA) and cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]).

NMDAR antagonists, such as memantine and ketamine, have shown efficacy in treating neurodegenerative diseases and major depression. The mechanism by which these drugs correct the aforementioned diseases is still unknown. Our study reveals that these antagonists significantly enhance 20S proteasome activity, crucial for degrading intrinsically disordered, oxidatively damaged, or misfolded proteins, factors pivotal in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Introduction: Adjunctive therapies to treat OFF episodes resulting from long-term levodopa treatment in Parkinson disease (PD) are hampered by safety and tolerability issues. Istradefylline offers an alternative mechanism (adenosine A2A receptor antagonist) and therefore potentially improved tolerability.
Methods: A systematic review of PD adjuncts published in 2011 was updated to include randomized controlled trials published from January 1, 2010-April 15, 2019.
