Predictors of permanent pacemaker implantation for transcatheter self-expandable aortic valve implant in the cusp overlap era.

Catheter Cardiovasc Interv

November 2024

Interventional Cardiology Department, Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery Institute (ICCYC), Hospital Universitario Fundación Favaloro, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Article Synopsis
  • Study evaluated predictors for needing a permanent pacemaker (PPMI) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) using the cusp overlap (COP) approach.
  • * 261 patients were analyzed, finding factors like implant depth and pre-existing electrical issues that predicted the need for PPMI.
  • * Patients with high implants and no previous conduction issues showed a low risk of needing PPMI and might be eligible for early discharge, while those needing PPMI had longer hospital stays.

Dynamic orthognathic surgical procedure (DOSP) in asymmetric maxillomandibular dysmorphism secondary to unilateral micrognathia: Outcomes of 12 consecutive cases.

J Craniomaxillofac Surg

February 2021

APHP, Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, Department of Pediatric Maxillo-Facial and Plastic Surgery, 75015, Paris, France; Rare Disease Center Cleft and Facial Malformation, 75015, Paris, France.

This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes following a dynamic orthognathic surgical procedure performed at the end of growth to treat asymmetric maxillomandibular deformities linked to unilateral micrognathia when conventional orthognathic surgery was not feasible. The dynamic orthognathic surgical procedure (DOSP) combined concomitant mandibular distraction osteogenesis with contralateral poorly stabilized sagittal split osteotomy and Le Fort I osteotomy. Cephalometric studies were retrospectively conducted on pre- and postoperative lateral and frontal cephalographs, and maxillomandibular movements were calculated.

Persistant left superior vena cava is a rare systemic venous anomaly that can be associated with agenesis of the right superior vena cava. It is usually assymptomatic and discovered incidentally during surgery or other procedures. The authors present the case of a 72-year-old male submitted to an aortic valve replacement surgery.

[Induction of atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia by radiofrequency application].

Medicina (B Aires)

July 2018

Centro de Arritmias Cardíacas, Servicio de Cardiología, Hospital Universitario del Centenario, Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina.

Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia is the most common form of sustained regular narrow QRS complex tachycardia. It is caused by the presence of a dual atrioventricular nodal anatomy and physiology, with a fast and a slow pathway forming a substrate for re-entry. Electrophysiology study confirms the diagnosis when the tachycardia is induced, although in some cases this is not possible.

Objective: To evaluate the short- and mid-term outcomes of arrhythmia in patients undergoing transcatheter and surgical closure of membraneous ventricular septal defect (VSD).

Methods: 358 VSD patients, 161 male and 197 female, aged (11 +/- 8), underwent transcatheter closure and 50 sex, age, body weight, size of membranous VSD, and percentage of complicated membranous aneurysm-matched VSD patients underwent surgical closure. Electrocardiography was conducted 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after VSD closure.
