SARS-CoV-2 infection has been associated with the increased incidence of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN), an infrequent ocular disorder. However, the precise mechanisms underpinning AMN in the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection (AMN-SARS-CoV-2) remain elusive. In this case-control study, 14 patients diagnosed with AMN-SARS-CoV-2 between 2022/12 and 2023/3 were enrolled and compared with 14 SARS-CoV-2-infected individuals without AMN, who served as controls (SARS-CoV-2-no AMN).

Weaning process is commonly associated with gastrointestinal inflammation and dysbiosis of the intestinal microbes. In particular, the impact of gut bacteria and extracellular vesicles on the etiology of intestinal inflammation during weaning is not well understood. We have uncovered a potential link between gut inflammation and the corresponding variation of macrophage bacterial sensing and pro-inflammatory polarization during the weaning process of piglets through single-cell transcriptomic analyses.

Background: Deficiency of arginase-1, the final enzyme in the urea cycle, causes a distinct clinical syndrome and is characterized biochemically by a high level of plasma arginine. While conventional therapy for urea cycle disorders can lower these levels to some extent, it does not normalize them. Until now, research on plasma arginine levels in this disorder has primarily relied on data from specialized tertiary centers, which limits the ability to assess the natural history and treatment efficacy of arginase-1 deficiency due to the small number of patients in each center and technical variations in plasma arginine measurements among different laboratories.

Background Parasites are well-known immune-modulators. They inhibit some aspects of the immune system to ensure persistence inside the host for a long time; meanwhile, they stimulate other immune aspects to assure the survival of the host. Wide variations in the severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among developed and developing countries were reported during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) are autoimmune liver diseases that target the liver and have a wide spectrum of presentation. A global overview of quantitative variations on the salivary proteome in presence of these two pathologies is investigated in this study. The acid-insoluble salivary fraction of AIH and PBC patients, and healthy controls (HCs), was analyzed using a gel-based bottom-up proteomic approach combined with a robust machine learning statistical analysis of the dataset.
