Background: The aim of this study was to report our new findings on anorectal electromanometrical patterns in patients with isolated neuronal intestinal dysplasia (IND) type B.
Methods: We reviewed and analyzed the records of preoperative anorectal electromanometric examinations in 17 patients (10 male and 7 female) with IND. The diagnosis of IND was made based on a pathological examination.
To test the reparative capacity of stromal cells in myocardial infarction, rats were injected with granulocyte-monocyte-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) (leukomax), a cytokine known by its ability to raise a level of stromal cells in the blood, during first three days after coronary artery ligation. Only 10 of 17 rats (59%) survived 4 weeks in this group compared with 16 of 24 (67%) among rats not treated with leukomax. Echocardiographic and electromanometric studies showed that in both groups ventricular (LV) dilatation which developed during first hours after surgery persisted throughout 6-8 weeks and was combined with decreased ejection fraction and elevated LV end diastolic pressure.

Background: The responses of the upper esophageal sphincter to gastroesophageal reflux is controversial.
Objective: Study the effect of upper esophageal sphincter to the esophageal acid perfusion.
Methods: Thirty adult dogs of both sexes were studied, being submitted to esophageal electromanometry.

Background: Fecal incontinence, with or without persistent constipation is often underestimated in children affected by spina bifida. Medullar lesions to the L-S metameres result in a slowing of rectal and/or rectal-sigmoid motility, loss of anal or rectal sensation, deranged external anal sphincter function, altered motility of the anal levator muscles, and loss of motor coordination of the internal sphincter. We conducted an electromyographic and electromanometric evaluation of the anorectal tract in a group of children affected by myelomeningocele (MMC) in an attempt to evaluate the degree of functional damage and to provide appropriate treatment.

The usefulness of ileocolic sphincter (ICS) transplantation to the neck after a total laryngopharyngectomy was investigated in 12 mongrel dogs. The authors aimed to evaluate the influence of the transplantation on ICS pressure amplitude and ICS length, and on ICS resistance to intracecal pressure increase. Electromanometric measurements showed that ICS pressure amplitude and length presented no changes after the procedure.
