Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a major health threat, with a high mortality rate in severe forms. Though alcohol and bile-induced factors are the most common causes, increasing evidence suggests that viral infections such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may also trigger AP development. Our study aims to explore this association in greater detail.

Background: Persistent pancreaticobiliary reflux (PBR) is associated with a high risk of biliary malignancy. This study aimed to evaluate the proportion of PBR in biliary tract diseases and mechanisms by which PBR promoted cholangiocarcinoma progression.
Methods: Overall 227 consecutive patients with primary biliary tract disease participated in this study.

Objective: The correlation between cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) progression and bile is rarely studied. Here, we aimed to identify differential metabolites in benign and malignant bile ducts and elucidate the generation, function and degradation of bile metabolites.
Design: Differential metabolites in the bile from CCA and benign biliary stenosis were identified by metabonomics.

Biliopleural fistula (BF) and formation of biliopleural effusion is a rare complication following percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD). It occurs when the pleura is traversed by the catheter before entering the bile duct. Biliopleural fistula should be suspected when right side pleural effusion develops following the PTBD procedure.
