The present study aims to better understand the nature of currently circulating GPV strains and their pathological impact on the immune system during natural outbreaks among different duck breeds in Egypt. For this purpose, 99 ducks (25 flocks) of different breeds, aged 14-75 days, were clinically examined, and 75 tissue pools from the thymus, bursa of Fabricius, and spleen were submitted for virus detection and identification. Clinical and postmortem findings were suggestive of GPV infection.

Efficacy of Fetal Wharton's Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cells-Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles in Metabolic Syndrome.

Biomolecules

January 2025

Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (DTERM), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Cheras, Kuala Lumpur 56000, Malaysia.

Background/objective: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is characterized by abdominal obesity, increased blood pressure (BP), fasting blood glucose (FBG) and triglyceride levels, and reduced high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of the Wharton's jelly mesenchymal stem cells (WJMSCs)-derived small extracellular vesicles' (sEVs) preparations in managing MetS.

Method: Twenty-four rats were fed with a high-fat and high-fructose diet to induce MetS for 16 weeks and randomized into three groups ( = 8/group): a MetS Control group treated with normal saline, MetS Low Dose (LD) group treated with a LD of sEVs preparations (3 × 10 particle/rat), and MetS High Dose (HD) group treated with a HD of sEVs preparations (9 × 10 particles/rat).

Objective: To understand the influence of MIR-451 on LKB1-AMPK signal pathway and oxidative stress index in lung cancer mice.

Methods: 40 rats were divided into four groups: ZC group (no lung cancer model), model group (lung cancer model), intervention group (rats with MiR-451 agomir injected), and NC group (rats with MiR-451 agomir control injected), 10 mice/group. The levels of MDA (malondialdehyde) and SOD (superoxide dismutase) in the four groups were detected, as well as the overall weights of the lungs and spleens.

A CASE REPORT OF DISCONTINUED SPLENOGONADAL FUSION MASQUERADED AS PARATESTICULAR TUMOR.

Georgian Med News

November 2024

Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, Qassim University, Buraydah, Saudi Arabia.

Splenogonadal fusion is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by an unusual linkage between ectopic splenic tissue and the gonad, with a higher prevalence observed in the males. While the majority of the splenogonadal fusion cases are associated with cryptorchidism, the patients may have other congenital malformations such as inguinal hernias. Despite being benign and having a rare occurrence, the preoperative diagnosis of splenogonadal fusion is a challenging one.

Chlamydia muridarum (Cm) has reemerged as a moderately prevalent infectious agent in research mouse colonies. Despite its experimental use, few studies evaluate Cm's effects on immunocompetent mice following its natural route of infection. A Cm field isolate was administered (orogastric gavage) to 8-wk-old female BALB/cJ (C) mice.
