Background: In an Italian cohort of lupus podocytopathy patients, we aimed to characterize the presenting features, therapy, and outcomes, and explore differences between relapsing and non-relapsing patients.

Methods: We identified 29 patients with lupus podocytopathy from 1994 to 2023 in 11 Italian Nephrology/Rheumatology Units, and divided them into two groups: relapsing and non-relapsing. Given the limited sample size, a p-value ≤ 0.

Growth hormone-releasing hormone signaling and manifestations within the cardiovascular system.

Rev Endocr Metab Disord

January 2025

Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Biomedical Research Building, 1501 N.W. 10th Avenue, Room 908, Miami, FL, 33136, USA.

Growth hormone (GH)-releasing hormone (GHRH), a hypothalamic peptide initially characterized for its role in GH regulation, has gained increasing attention due to its GH-independent action on peripheral physiology, including that of the cardiovascular system. While its effects on the peripheral vasculature are still under investigation, GHRH and synthetic agonists have exhibited remarkable receptor-mediated cardioprotective properties in preclinical models. GHRH and its analogs enhance myocardial function by improving contractility, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and offsetting pathological remodeling.

Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) due to a parathyroid adenoma stands as one of the most prevalent endocrinological disorders, with focused parathyroidectomy being the established therapeutic strategy.

Aim: This study aims to investigate whether the volume of the pathological gland influences perioperative outcomes and postoperative morbidity.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from 141 patients who underwent focused parathyroidectomy for PHPT at the University Hospital of Basel between 2007 and 2022.

Molecular and therapeutic insight into ER Stress signaling in NSCLC.

J Drug Target

January 2025

Department of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Institute of Advanced Research, Gandhinagar, India.

Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) stress is intricately involved in cancer development, progression and response to chemotherapy. ER stress related genes might play an important role in predicting the prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma patients and may be manipulated to improve the treatment outcome and overall survival rate. In this review, we analyzed the contribution of the three major ER stress pathways-IRE1, ATF6, and PERK-in lung cancer pathogenesis via modulation of tumor microenvironment (TME) and processes as metastasis, angiogenesis, apoptosis and N-glycosylation.

Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is a common pathological manifestation of many cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction, myocardial ischemia, and sudden cardiac death. It is characterized by excessive proliferation and activation of fibroblasts, transformation into myofibroblasts, and, eventually, excessive deposition of the extracellular matrix, resulting in heart damage. Currently, modern drugs such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, diuretics, and β-blockers can improve myocardial fibrosis in clinical treatment, but their therapeutic effect on this disease is limited, with obvious side effects and high cost.
