Perturbations in Microbial Communities at Hydrothermal Vents of Panarea Island (Aeolian Islands, Italy).

Biology (Basel)

January 2025

Dipartimento Scienze e Tecnologie Biologiche, Chimiche e Farmaceutiche, University of Palermo, Viale delle Scienze, 90128 Palermo, Italy.

Marine hydrothermal ecosystems represent extreme environments connected to submarine volcanic areas characterized by vents, having high temperatures and particular chemical compositions. The hydrothermal marine system of Panarea, located in one of the seven small islands belonging to the Aeolian Archipelago (southern Tyrrhenian Sea), is characterized by a range of vents exhibiting diverse physical and chemical conditions. We aimed to analyze the microbial community of a peculiar hot spring belonging to the Panarea hydrothermal field, known as "Black Point" (BP), in two separate sampling expeditions (May and August).

Animals must deal with numerous perturbations, oftentimes concurrently. In this study, we examine the effects of two perturbations, high extracellular potassium and elevated temperature, on the resilience of the pyloric rhythm of the crab, . At control temperatures (11°C), high potassium saline (2.

Shannon Entropy Computations in Navier-Stokes Flow Problems Using the Stochastic Finite Volume Method.

Entropy (Basel)

January 2025

Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering, Lodz University of Technology, 90-924 Łódź, Poland.

The main aim of this study is to achieve the numerical solution for the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible, non-turbulent, and subsonic fluid flows with some Gaussian physical uncertainties. The higher-order stochastic finite volume method (SFVM), implemented according to the iterative generalized stochastic perturbation technique and the Monte Carlo scheme, are engaged for this purpose. It is implemented with the aid of the polynomial bases for the pressure-velocity-temperature (PVT) solutions, for which the weighted least squares method (WLSM) algorithm is applicable.

Two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnetic (FM) semiconductors hold great promise for the next generation spintronics devices. By performing density functional theory first-principles calculations, both CeF and CeFCl monolayers are studied, our calculation results show that CeF is a FM semiconductor with sizable magneto-crystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) and high Curie temperature (290 K), but a smaller band gap and thermal instability indicate that it is not applicable at higher temperature. Its isoelectronic analogue, the CeFCl monolayer, is a bipolar FM semiconductor, its dynamics, elastic, and thermal stability are confirmed, our results demonstrate promising applications of the CeFCl monolayer for next-generation spintronic devices owing to its high Curie temperature (200 K), stable semiconducting features, and stability.
