The extensive use of tetracyclines in livestock poses health risks due to their residues in animal-derived food; therefore, developing simple detection methods to replace complex traditional approaches is of paramount importance. Here, we developed a dual-ligand zinc-based metal-organic framework material, Zn-BTC-BDC-NH (denoted as ZTD), for the detection of tetracyclines. The intrinsic blue fluorescence of ZTD was quenched upon the introduction of tetracyclines due to electron transfer from -NH of ZTD to -CO- and -OH groups of tetracycline molecules; meanwhile, the new green fluorescence emission was generated through π-π stacking between aromatic rings and the formation of complexes between Zn and C-O/C═O groups.

The NorA and TetK efflux pumps mediate resistance to fluoroquinolone and tetracycline antibiotics by actively extruding these compounds and reducing their intracellular concentrations. Consequently, intense research has focused on inhibiting these efflux mechanisms using antimicrobial agents derived from natural or synthetic sources. This study used Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) to analyze the various functional groups present in p-coumaric acid.

Herein, we report a novel ratiometric nanoprobe (CDs@LZIF-8-Eu) that integrates fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) and Eu on LZIF-8 via a one-pot stirring method. Tetracyclines (TCs) can create inner filter effect on CDs while simultaneously generating an antenna effect with Eu. The rapid and efficient adsorption capabilities of LZIF-8 enhance the probability of TCs interacting with the signal tags.

Phosphate pollution leads to the deterioration of water quality, posing a serious threat to human health. Tetracycline hydrochloride (TC), a class of broad-spectrum bacteriostatic agents, has garnered attention due to its extensive use and potential toxicity. Therefore, developing a highly selective and sensitive fluorescent probe for the detection of phosphates and TC is of significant importance.

A sensitized dual-response ratiometric fluorescent sensor integrated smartphone platform for accurate discrimination and detection of tetracycline (TC) homologues was fabricated based on N-CDs-Eu complex. In the sensing system, N-CDs act as a sensitizer of Eu and significantly enhance the fluorescence of TC-Eu complex approximate 40-fold owing to the synergistic effect of antenna effect (AE) and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). A paper sensor integrated with a smartphone platform is further fabricated for on-site measurement of TC.
