An attempt was made to enhance (by means of instruction) the verbal labeling and recall of schematic pictures which uninformed Ss tended to perceive as senseless. Sixty-nine male and female undergraduate students in psychology, about 19 years of age, took part in the experiment. Ss were confronted with 16 schematic pictures half of which referred to a predefined semantical category. In Condition I Ss were informed in advance that some of the pictures belonged to the predefined category. In Condition II the pictures were presented as senseless. In Condition III information about the belonging of some of the items to one semantical category was postponed until just prior to free recall. The results indicated that verbal labeling of the pictures involved was stimulated by appropriate instruction, enhancing later free recall. However, the critical information had to be given prior to actual learning. In a subsequent test for recognition no differences were observed between the conditions.

Introduction: While the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis (CF) is often straightforward and reliant on correlation between genetic testing and clinical signs and symptoms, there is a subset where the distinction is not nearly as clearcut. This has previously been reported in patients identified through newborn screening but not meeting full CF diagnostic criteria, earning the label of CF Screen Positive, Inconclusive Diagnosis (CFSPID) instead. A homologous diagnostic category in adults is named CF Transmembrane Conductance Regulator-Related Disorder (CFTR-RD).

Coronary artery stenosis detection remains a challenging task due to the complex vascular structure, poor quality of imaging pictures, poor vessel contouring caused by breathing artifacts and stenotic lesions that often appear in a small region of the image. In order to improve the accuracy and efficiency of detection, a new deep-learning technique based on a coronary artery stenosis detection framework (DCA-YOLOv8) is proposed in this paper. The framework consists of a histogram equalization and canny edge detection preprocessing (HEC) enhancement module, a double coordinate attention (DCA) feature extraction module and an output module that combines a newly designed loss function, named adaptive inner-CIoU (AICI).

Background: The present study investigated whether semantic processing of word and object primes can bias visual attention using top-down influences, even within an exogenous cueing framework. We hypothesized that real words and familiar objects would more effectively bias attentional engagement and target detection than pseudowords or pseudo-objects, as they can trigger prior knowledge to influence attention orienting and target detection.
Methods: To examine this, we conducted two web-based eye-tracking experiments that ensured participants maintained central fixation on the screen during remote data collection.
