Stress-elicited glucocorticoid receptor signaling upregulates TIGIT in innate-like invariant T lymphocytes.

Brain Behav Immun

Electronic address:

Stress is known to impede certain host defense mechanisms, including those governed by conventional T lymphocytes. However, whether innate-like T lymphocytes, such as invariant natural killer T (iNKT) and mucosa-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells, are impacted by stress is unclear. Herein, we report that prolonged psychological stress caused by physical confinement results in robust upregulation of T cell immunoreceptor with immunoglobulin and ITIM domains (TIGIT), an immune checkpoint receptor that controls antitumor and antiviral immune responses.

Mice housed in an enriched environment display a tumor-resistant phenotype due to eustress stimulation. However, the mechanisms underlying enriched environment-induced protection against cancers remain largely unexplained. In this study, we observed a significant antitumor effect induced by enriched environment in murine pancreatic cancer and lung cancer models.

Positive expectations contribute to the clinical benefits of the placebo effect. Such positive expectations are mediated by the brain's reward system; however, it remains unknown whether and how reward system activation affects the body's physiology and, specifically, immunity. Here we show that activation of the ventral tegmental area (VTA), a key component of the reward system, strengthens immunological host defense.

Baroreflex activation in conscious rats modulates the joint inflammatory response via sympathetic function.

Brain Behav Immun

October 2015

Departments of Physiology from the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil. Electronic address:

The baroreflex is a critical physiological mechanism controlling cardiovascular function by modulating both the sympathetic and parasympathetic activities. Here, we report that electrical activation of the baroreflex attenuates joint inflammation in experimental arthritis induced by the administration of zymosan into the femorotibial cavity. Baroreflex activation combined with lumbar sympathectomy, adrenalectomy, celiac subdiaphragmatic vagotomy or splenectomy dissected the mechanisms involved in the inflammatory modulation, highlighting the role played by sympathetic inhibition in the attenuation of joint inflammation.

[Acute finger ischemia: A retrospective study of 13 patients].

Ann Dermatol Venereol

May 2015

Service de dermatologie et médecine vasculaire, centre hospitalier Victor-Dupouy, 69, rue du Lieutenant-Colonel-Prud'hon, 95107 Argenteuil cedex, France.

Background: Acute ischemia of the upper limbs is rare in comparison with ischemia of the lower limbs. The origins of this condition are varied.

Goals: We retrospectively analyzed cases of acute finger ischemia (Raynaud's phenomena was excluded) in a dermatology department between 2008 and 2013 in order to evaluate the etiology and management of this phenomenon.
