Background: To intraindividually compare the diagnostic performance of positron emission computed tomography (F-18-FDG-PET/CT) and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) in a non-inferiority design for the discrimination of peripheral nerve sheath tumours as benign (BPNST), atypical (ANF), or malignant (MPNST) in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1).

Results: In this prospective single-centre study, thirty-four NF1 patients (18 male; 30 ± 11 years) underwent F-18-FDG-PET/CT and multi-b-value DW-MRI (11 b-values 0 - 800 s/mm²) at 3T. Sixty-six lesions corresponding to 39 BPNST, 11 ANF, and 16 MPNST were evaluated.

November 2024

State Key Laboratory of Rice Biology, Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for Nuclear-Agricultural Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310058, China.

Potato starch is widely utilized in the food industry. Gamma irradiation is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method for starch modification. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of comprehensive and consistent knowledge regarding the physicochemical characteristics of high-dose gamma-irradiated potato starch, retrogradation properties in particular.

Objective: To determine whether adjuvant transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) inhibition with pirfenidone (PFD) can mitigate ureteral wall scarring and related complications in a rat model of upper urinary tract ablation with irreversible electroporation (IRE).

Methods: Transmural ablation of the ureter was performed with IRE in 24 rats. Post-IRE, animals were randomly assigned to receive PFD or no drug, followed by euthanasia at 2-, 5-, or 10-days.

Background: The complex interactions of the tumor micromilieu may be reflected by diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) derived from the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The present study investigated the association between apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values and histopathologic features in uterine cervical cancer.

Methods: In this retrospective study, prebiopsy MRI was used to analyze histogram ADC-parameters.

Background: The growth and drug response of tumors are influenced by their stromal composition, both in vivo and 3D-cell culture models. Cell-type inherent features as well as mutual relationships between the different cell types in a tumor might affect drug susceptibility of the tumor as a whole and/or of its cell populations. However, a lack of single-cell procedures with sufficient detail has hampered the automated observation of cell-type-specific effects in three-dimensional stroma-tumor cell co-cultures.
