This study investigates the potential of energy-coupling factor (ECF) transporters as promising anti-infective targets to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). ECF transporters, a subclass of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, facilitate the uptake of B-vitamins across bacterial membranes by utilizing ATP as an energy source. Vitamins are essential cofactors for bacterial metabolism and growth, and they can either be synthesized de novo or absorbed from the environment.

Diabetes is marked by postprandial hyperglycemia (PHG), an abnormal rise in blood glucose after meals. A key therapeutic goal to reduce PHG is the inhibition of α-amylase (αAM) and α-glucosidase (αGL), enzymes that break down carbohydrates into sugars. Cucurbita moschata has been shown to inhibit both enzymes.

Ninjurin-1 (NINJ1), initially identified as a stress-induced protein in neurons, recently emerged as a key mediator of plasma membrane rupture (PMR) during apoptosis, necrosis, and pyroptosis. However, its involvement in ferroptosis is less well elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that NINJ1 also plays a crucial role in ferroptosis, but through a distinct mechanism.
