We herein report the first documented case of acute hypersensitivity pneumonitis in which Candida guilliermondii was the possible causative organism. A young Japanese woman presented to our hospital with relapsing respiratory symptoms accompanied by high fever. A detailed interview revealed that the onset of the symptoms occurred shortly after using a humidifier in her home.

Background: We screened patients with chronic respiratory diseases for microbiological and serological evidences of fungal colonisation; in order to determine its prevalence in this group of patients, examine potential clinical and radiological predictors of fungal colonisation and characterise fungal agents associated with individual diseases.
Methods: BAL samples from 60 consecutive patients were subjected to microscopy and culture for fungal agents. Serum samples were analysed for precipitin antibodies to Aspergillus antigen and Candida cytoplasmic antigen.

There is a substantial body of evidence supporting an association between asthma severity and fungal exposure and sensitization. Fungal allergens are a recognized risk factor for severe asthma. We describe the case of a 44-year-old asthmatic whose asthma control deteriorated after moving to a new flat with walls covered in mould.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground And Objective: The usefulness of two tests in the serodiagnosis of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) was compared. The tests were the serum Aspergillus galactomannan antigen test (Platelia (R) Aspergillus) by enzyme-linked immunoassay (EIA) using old and new cut-off indexes, and the Aspergillus precipitating antibody test.
Methods: Both Aspergillus-precipitating antibody and Platelia Aspergillus EIA positivity were measured in the sera of 28 patients at the time of diagnosis of CPA.

Objectives: To establish method for collecting haemocytes of Oncomelania hupensis and study its morphology and immunological importance.
Methods: Referring to the method of haemocytes collection from peripheral lymphoid organ, suspension technique was used for collection of haemocytes from snails, which were then Giemsa-stained and observed under microscope. Stained by gentian violet, number of haemocytes was counted and compared with that of conventional squashing method and needling method by ANOVA and Dunnett-t test.
