The concept of progressive hereditary degeneration, which significantly influenced medical, particularly psychiatric and in turn social thought of the second half of the 19th century, was articulated by Bénédict Augustin Morel. The distinguished French psychiatrist developed the theory of degeneration and created the nosological framework of the heredity of mental illness in order to explain the more frequent psychoses and nervous disorders. In the absence of patho-anatomical findings, Morel attributed these phenomena to hereditary causes.

Introduction: Visualization of scoliosis typically requires ionizing radiation (radiography and CT) to visualize bony anatomy. MRI is often additionally performed to screen for neural axis abnormalities. We propose a 14-minutes radiation-free scoliosis-specific MRI protocol, which combines MRI and MRI-based synthetic CT images to visualize soft and osseous structures in one examination.

Background: Chronic Non-Specific Low Back Pain (cNSLBP) has been identified as one of the leading global causes of disability and is characterized by symptoms without clear patho-anatomical origin. The majority of clinical trials assess cNSLBP using scales or questionnaires, reporting an influence of cognitive, emotional and behavioral factors. However, few studies have explored the effect of chronic pain in daily life tasks such as walking and avoiding obstacles, which involves perceptual-motor processes to interact with the environment.

Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) detected electrocardiographically is documented as an independent cardiovascular risk factor. However, the reasoning for using electrocardiography (ECG) for LVH detection is frequently referring to its low cost and availability, which should compensate for the main problem of the ECG criteria for LVH detection (ECG-LVH) - the high number of ECG false negative results and the resulting low sensitivity. This opinion paper is focused on the scientific evidence for advocating the usefulness of ECG in LVH assessment.
