Unlabelled: DIAGNOSIS AND PROGNOSIS: Antiphospholipids comprise a very heterogeneous group of auto-antibodies including anticardiolipids demonstrated by immunological methods and lupus anticoagulants detected by coagulation tests. Antiphospholipids are encountered in various conditions other than dysimmune disease and are frequently involved in thrombotic manifestations. We discuss here the implications of these antibodies in digestive tract diseases and present an analysis of their diagnostic and prognostic value for optimal therapeutic and monitoring approaches.

Background/aims: Cryptogenetic multifocal ulcerous stenosing enteritis (CMUSE) is a rare disease whose origin is unknown. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical spectrum of CMUSE, to determine the origin and pathophysiology of the disease, and to propose a treatment strategy.

Methods: A total of 220 French gastroenterology departments were contacted to review patients with unexplained small bowel strictures.

Background: Daily administration of rectal formulations of mesalazine is effective in preventing relapse of ulcerative proctitis. Maintenance of remission with lower doses would be an advantage.

Aim: The efficacy of mesalazine suppositories (Pentasa) 1 g three times a week v placebo to maintain remission in patients with cryptogenetic proctitis was studied.
