Three fatal cases of the puncture of the vena subclavia are reported and medicolegal aspects of this emergency operation are discussed. Punctures of the vena subclavia--as an emergency operation--has no contraindications. Undesirable consequences, when the operation was carried out with due skills and in due circumstances--will not provide grounds for negligence.
