Dental caries is a common disease resulting from tooth demineralization caused by bacterial plaque. Probiotics have shown great potential against caries by regulating the balance of oral flora. However, obstacles such as poor colonization and lysozyme sensitivity in oral cavity hinder their further application.

Background: The oral cavity is a complex environment which harbours the second largest and most diverse microflora after the gastrointestinal tract. The bacteriome in the oral cavity plays a pivotal role in promoting the health and well-being of human beings. Gingivitis, an inflammation of the gingival tissue, arises due to plaque accumulation on the teeth, often leads to periodontitis.

Guangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine, Department of Clinical Pharmacy, Guangzhou 514000, China. Electronic address:

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with unclear etiology. This study employs single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), high-throughput transcriptome sequencing, 16s rRNA sequencing, and animal experiments to investigate the role of the contactin-associated protein like-4 (Cntnap4) gene in AD and its interaction with intestinal flora. We found that Cntnap4 deficiency in AD mice led to increased Tau protein phosphorylation, amyloid-beta plaque accumulation, and neuronal loss.

Polypeptide of Inonotus hispidus extracts alleviates periodontitis through suppressing inflammatory bone loss.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

School of Life Sciences, Jilin University, Changchun 130012, China; Engineering Research Center of Chinese Ministry of Education for Edible and Medicinal Fungi, Jilin Agricultural University, Changchun 130118, China. Electronic address:

This study aimed to characterize and evaluate the effects of a novel polypeptide isolated from Inonotus hispidus (IH) against periodontitis. The polypeptides extracted and purified from the fruiting body of IH had a uniform molar mass, including 23 types of peptides. IH polypeptide (IHP) exerted antimicrobial activity against Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.
