A localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor based on tapered optical fiber (TOF) using hollow gold nanoparticles (HAuNPs) for measuring the refractive index (RI) is presented. This optical fiber sensor is a good candidate for a label-free RI biosensor. In practical biosensors, bioreceptors are immobilized on nanoparticles (NPs) that only absorb specific biomolecules.

The refractive index (RI) of human milk serum (also known as whey, milk soluble fraction or milk plasma) depends on the individual molecular species dissolved in the serum and their concentrations. Although the human milk serum RI is known to influence milk analysis methods based on light scattering, the RI dependency on human milk serum composition is currently unknown. Therefore, we systematically evaluate how the RI depends on natural variations in macronutrient concentrations in the soluble fraction.

This study reports a high-transmission photonic crystal (PC) that was optimized for TM waves at a frequency of 43.8 GHz and engineered using photonic band gap (PBG) principles to achieve angle selection. The structure demonstrated a remarkable transmission from -68° to 0°, consistently exceeding 80% efficiency.

In this report, the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO NPs) have been explored experimentally using femtosecond laser light along with the Z-scan approach. The synthesis of TiO NPs was carried out in distilled water through nanosecond second harmonic Nd:YAG laser ablation. Characterization of the TiO NPs colloids was conducted using UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX).
