Sino-Jan Joint Lab of Natural Health Products Research, School of Traditional Chinese Medicines, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing, 211198, China. Electronic address:

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a fatal disease with increasing incidence, poor prognosis, and unclear pathogenesis. Our previous research demonstrated the beneficial effects of the natural cyclopeptide Heterophyllin B (HB) in PF. However, the precise mechanism by which HB exerts its effects in PF remains unclear.

Objectives: This study aims to explore patients' and clinicians' understanding and experiences of refractory disease (RD) and persistent physical and emotional symptoms (PPES) in patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA), namely rheumatoid arthritis or polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis from their perspectives through interviews and/or focus groups.

Design: A qualitative study was conducted, following a pragmatic epistemology approach with framework analysis employed.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews or focus groups with IA patients (n = 25) and multi-disciplinary rheumatology HCPs (n = 32) were conducted at one time point to obtain participants respective understanding and experiences of managing RD/PPES, and its impact on the patient-professional relationship.

: Spinal flexibility radiographs are important in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) for clinical decision-making. In this study, we introduce a new method, the 'quantitatively controlled standing fulcrum side-bending' test (CSFS test). This is a feasibility study; we aimed to quantify the applied force and track the temporospatial changes in the spine specifically by measuring the continuous change in the Cobb angle (in degrees) during lateral bending.

The Intricate Relationship Between Pulmonary Fibrosis and Thrombotic Pathology: A Narrative Review.

Cells

December 2024

Centro Dipartimentale di Biologia Cellulare Cardiorespiratoria, Dipartimento di Patologia Chirurgica, Medica, Molecolare e dell'Area Critica, Università degli Studi di Pisa, 56124 Pisa, Italy.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is associated with a significantly increased risk of thrombotic events and mortality. This review explores the complex bidirectional relationship between pulmonary fibrosis and thrombosis, discussing epidemiological evidence, pathogenetic mechanisms, and therapeutic implications, with a particular focus on the emerging role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as crucial mediators linking fibrosis and coagulation. Coagulation factors directly promote fibrosis, while fibrosis itself activates thrombotic pathways.

Alarming Signal from the Ear: Tinnitus, a Possible Epiphenomenon of Silent Hyperlipidaemia.

Biomedicines

December 2024

Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Debrecen, Nagyerdei St. 98, H-4032 Debrecen, Hungary.

Over the past few decades, many studies have been conducted to explore the link between tinnitus and lipid metabolism, yielding inconsistent results. In our current study, we compared the prevalence of various lipid metabolism abnormalities in patients with chronic subjective idiopathic tinnitus (CSIT) to the official prevalence data of dyslipidaemia in the general adult Hungarian population. To counteract the distorting effect of the co-increase in both conditions with age, we also examined this relationship by age groups.
