Wheat, a staple food crop globally, faces the challenges of limited water resources and sustainable soil management practices. The pivotal elements of the current study include the integration of activated acacia biochar (AAB) in wheat cultivation under varying irrigation regimes (IR). A field trial was conducted in the Botanical Garden, University of the Punjab, Lahore during 2023-2024, designed as a split-split-plot arrangement with RCBD comprising three AAB levels (0T, 5T, and 10T, T = tons per hectare) three wheat cultivars (Dilkash-2020, Akbar-2019, and FSD-08) receiving five IR levels (100%, 80%, 70%, 60%, and 50% field capacity).

Household kitchen waste (HKW) is produced in large quantity and its management is difficult due to high moisture content and complex organic matter. Aerobic composting of HKW is an easy, efficient, cost-effective and eco-friendly method. This study is designed to achieve a zero-waste concept and to convert HKW.

There is a large gap between the performances indicated by rotating disk electrode (RDE) results in acidic media and the actual performances obtained in membrane-electrode assemblies (MEAs) composed of the same electrocatalysts. It is unclear whether the intrinsic kinetic reactivity of the available surface Pt sites of Pt-based cathode electrocatalysts is similar or different at RDE and in MEA. To address this, we used an operando element-selective time-resolved Pt L-edge quick X-ray absorption fine structure (QXAFS) technique to determine transient response profiles and rate constants, , , and , corresponding to changes in the oxidation states [white line (WL) intensity] and local structures (coordination numbers of Pt-O and Pt-Pt bonds) at Pt sites for nine representative Pt-based cathode electrocatalysts under transient voltage operations, aiming to understand the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance gap between RDE and MEA.

We evaluated the antimicrobial performance of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and peracetic acid (PAA) during washing of baby spinach in water of varying levels of organic load, as measured by its chemical oxygen demand (COD). Escherichia coli TVS353 was spot inoculated onto one unwashed leaf. Sanitizers were added into water with preadjusted COD (300 or 2500 ppm) to achieve concentrations from 20 to 80 ppm.
