Evaluation of SNaPshot and Sanger sequencing for the detection of and mutations in a sample of Venezuelan patients with colorectal cancer.

Ecancermedicalscience

November 2024

Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC), Unidad de Estudios Genéticos y Forenses (UEGF), Caracas 1020, República Bolivariana de Venezuela.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most commonly occurring cancer in men and the second most commonly occurring cancer in women. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is relevant in the development and progression of CRC, because it is part of multiple signaling pathways involved in processes of the cell cycle, their malfunction causes dysregulation and subsequently carcinogenesis. Consequently, therapies were developed with anti-EGFR monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) that improve the survival of patients with CRC.

Metasurfaces offer a powerful tool to realize label-free and highly sensitive Raman spectroscopy. Embedding metasurfaces into microfluidic channels is promising to establish a new characterizing platform for microfluids. In this Letter, we present a highly stable method for improving the Raman scattering intensity of biological microfluids by using a microfluidic chip embedded with a plasmonic metasurface.

Haemorrhoids are a common anorectal disease primarily treated through surgery, often leading to complications such as pain. The efficacy of acupuncture in relieving postoperative pain in mixed haemorrhoids has not been well-documented. This study included 90 patients undergoing haemorrhoid surgery and their Visual Analogue Score (VAS), inflammatory factor levels, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), and analgesic drug use were accessed.

Enhanced piezoelectric sensor to distinguish real-time arrhythmia for predicting heart failure.

Biosens Bioelectron

January 2025

Institute of Biomedical Engineering, College of Medicine, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, 610031, Sichuan, PR China; Key Laboratory of Advanced Technologies of Materials Ministry of Education, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, 610031, PR China. Electronic address:

Monitoring cardiac rhythm is crucial for diagnosis of heart failure. However, the deficient sensitivity of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) sensors impede their application in monitoring of cardiac rhythm due to the limited piezoelectricity. Here, doping of CoFeO and aligning fibers were jointly adopted to enhance the piezoelectricity of PVDF, attributed to the transformation of α-PVDF to β-PVDF from 51.
