The emergence of hypervirulent and carbapenem-resistant hypermucoviscous strains presents a significant public health challenge due to their increased virulence and resistance to multiple antibiotics. This study evaluates the antibiotic susceptibility patterns and virulence profiles of classical and hypervirulent strains isolated from various clinical samples. A total of 500 clinical samples were collected from patients at the Mardan Medical Complex and Ayub Medical Complex in KPK between July 2022 and June 2024.

Lectins are versatile proteins that specifically recognize and interact with sugar moieties expressed on the cell surface. The potential of lectin in drug targeting and delivery has instigated interest to identify natural lectins. Crabs have been identified as a rich source of lectin because the innate immune system is activated on encounter of pathogens and helps in the production of lectin.

There is an urgent need to develop natural antimicrobials for the control of rapidly mutating drug-resistant bacteria and poultry viruses. Five extracts were prepared using diethyl ether, ethyl acetate, methanol, 1-butanol and n-hexane from abdominal fats of Varanus griseus locally known as Indian desert monitor. Antibacterial, antioxidant and antiviral activities from oil extracts were done through disc diffusion method, stable 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay and in ovo antiviral assay, respectively.

Objectives: Catheters are one of the factors for complicated urinary tract infections. Uropathogenic bacteria can attach to the catheter via cell surface hydrophobicity (CSH), form biofilms, and remain in urinary tract. The study was evaluated phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of fimbriae in and uropathogenic (UPEC) isolates from patients with catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) and their association with biofilm formation.

Background: The management practices of liver abscess (LA) have evolved over time. The precise diagnosis of etiology and complications is pivotal for appropriate management.
Methods: Descriptive analyses of consecutive patients treated for LA using electronic medical records at a liver unit between years 2010 and 2020 and investigate relationships between clinical, imaging, laboratory and microbiological findings, treatment strategies and mortality.
