Background: Asthma is a prevalent respiratory disease, and its management remains largely unsatisfactory. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been demonstrated to be efficacious in reducing airway inflammation in experimental allergic diseases, representing a potential alternative treatment for asthma. Migrasomes are recently identified extracellular vesicles (EVs) generated in migrating cells and facilitate intercellular communication.

Schistosoma japonicum, which has been endemic for a long time, associated colon abnormality has also been sporadically reported. The majority of patients with Schistosomiasis japonicum infected may mainly presented as acute manifestation or become chronic complication, known as schistosomiasis liver change, intestinal tract lesions and other system involved. Interestingly, both states could be observed in this patient.

Chronic infection with Schistosoma mansoni parasites is associated with reduced allergic sensitization in humans, while schistosome eggs protects against allergic airway inflammation (AAI) in mice. One of the main secretory/excretory molecules from schistosome eggs is the glycosylated T2-RNAse Omega-1 (ω1). We hypothesized that ω1 induces protection against AAI during infection.

Background: Katayama syndrome is an acute manifestation of schistosomiasis, a parasitic infection that manifests itself through a hypersensitivity reaction to migrating larvae and early egg deposition. Left undiagnosed and untreated, acute schistosomiasis can develop into chronic schistosomiasis which can lead to debilitating morbidity such as pulmonary hypertension. This case highlights that Katayama syndrome can also been seen in regions where the parasite is not endemic, as it occurs in travelers returning from endemic regions or in immigrants.

Praziquantel (PZQ) is a medication used to treat several parasitic infections, including human schistosomiasis. Although this drug commonly causes transient adverse effects, severe hypersensitivity is rare, and only eight cases have been reported worldwide. Herein we report a case of a 13-year-old Brazilian female who developed anaphylaxis, a severe hypersensitive reaction, after taking praziquantel to treat infection During a mass drug administration event in a socially vulnerable endemic area of Bahia (Brazil), after taking 60 mg/kg of praziquantel the patient developed rash and generalized edema an hour later, evolving to somnolence and hypotension.
