Purpose: Fluid exchanges between perivascular spaces (PVS) and interstitium may contribute to the pathophysiology of small vessel disease (SVD). We aimed to analyze water diffusivity measures and their relationship with PVS and other SVD imaging markers.

Methods: We enrolled 50 consecutive patients with a recent small subcortical infarct.

Bioremediation is widely recognized as a promising and efficient approach for the elimination of Cd from contaminated paddy soils. However, the Cd removal efficacy achieved through this method remains unsatisfactory and is accompanied by a marginally higher cost. Cysteine has the potential to improve the bioleaching efficiency of Cd from soils and decrease the use cost since it is green, acidic and has a high Cd affinity.

This research addresses complexity in manufacturing systems from an entropic perspective for production improvement. The main objective is to develop and validate a methodology that develops an entropic metric of complexity in an integral way in production environments, through simulation and programming techniques. The methodological proposal is composed of six stages: (i) Case study, (ii) Hypothesis formulation, (iii) Discrete event simulation, (iv) Measurement of entropic complexity by applying Shannon's information theory, (v) Entropy analysis, and (vi) Statistical analysis by ANOVA.

Background: Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a hereditary disease caused by abnormally expanded CAG repeats in the ATXN3 gene. The study aimed to identify potential biomarkers for assessing therapeutic efficacy by investigating the associations between expanded CAG repeat size, brain and spinal cord volume loss, and motor functions in patients with SCA3.

Methods: In this prospective, cross-observational study, we analyzed 3D T1-weighted MRIs from 92 patients with SCA3 and 42 healthy controls using voxel-based morphometry and region of interest approaches.

Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Highlighted via Heterogeneous Light-Induced Dissipative Structure.

The unique characteristics of biological structures depend on the behavior of DNA sequences confined in a microscale cell under environmental fluctuations and dissipation. Here, we report a prominent difference in fluorescence from dye-modified single-stranded DNA in a light-induced assembly of DNA-functionalized heterogeneous probe particles in a microwell of several microliters in volume. Strong optical forces from the Mie scattering of microparticles accelerated hybridization, and the photothermal effect from the localized surface plasmons in gold nanoparticles enhanced specificity to reduce the fluorescence intensity of dye-modified DNA to a few %, even in a one-base mismatched sequence, enabling us to clearly highlight the single nucleotide polymorphisms in DNA.
