Management of difficult airways in the emergency department is challenging. Herein, we report a case of successful management of severe upper airway obstruction caused by angioedema, where intubation was achieved using a dual-function video laryngoscope and bronchoscope system in the emergency department for a patient with severe upper airway stenosis due to angioedema. A 74-year-old obese man with dyspnea presented to our emergency department.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a clinical manifestation of various underlying causes, characterized by the combination of clinical and imaging findings associated with the posterior cerebral areas and relating to arterial hypertension and endothelial dysfunction. No association was made so far between PRES and McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS), a rare genetic disorder resulting in fibrous dysplasia. A 33-year-old female with MAS was presented to the emergency department of the 417 Army Share Fund Hospital in Athens (Greece) after seizure activity with two episodes of ocular upward deviation and transient facial palsy, each lasting a few minutes, followed by a postictal phase.

The purpose of this manuscript is to report a rare case of pediatric central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) in the setting of atypical hypercoagulable tests. An 11-year-old female presented to the emergency department with painless, visual changes in the left eye. Ophthalmological examination was remarkable for a central area of retinal ischemia and edema with sparing along the distribution of the cilioretinal artery along with a cherry red spot, all of which were consistent with a CRAO.

In the realm of gene therapy, given the exceptional performance of native exosomes, researchers have redirected their innovative focus towards exosome-mimetic nanovesicles (EMNs); however, the current design of most EMNs relies heavily on native cells or their components, inevitably introducing inter-batch variability issues and posing significant challenges for quality control. To overcome the excessive reliance on native cellular components, this study adopts a unique approach by precisely mimicking the lipid composition of exosomes and innovatively incorporating histone components to recapitulate the gene transfer characteristics of exosomes. We selected sphingomyelin (SM), phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and cholesterol as the lipid components, and employed the double emulsion method to prepare biomimetic exosomes carrying histone A and PEDF-DNA plasmids (His-pDNA@EMNs).

Background: Medial meniscus ramp lesions (MMRLs) are commonly associated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and may increase the risk of graft failure after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) if undiagnosed or left untreated. Although MMRLs have been extensively reported in adults, there are limited studies describing them in pediatric patients undergoing ACLR. The purpose of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the pooled prevalence of and risk factors for MMRLs in pediatric patients with ACL injuries.
