Mössbauer spectra of deoxymyoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, and the synthetic analogues, iron (II) 2-methylimidazole meso-tetraphenylporphyrin, and iron (II) 1,2-dimethylimidazole meso-tetraphenylporphyrin have been observed in high magnetic fields and over a wide range of temperature. At temperatures greater than 20 K all materials exhibit remarkably similar spectra, with anisotropic internal magnetic fields decreasing as 1/T. All have negative quadrupole interaction, and both this and the magnetic anisotropy imply that the orbital of the odd electron is prolate in the ground quintet, with little unquenched orbital angular momentum. At 4.2 K the spectra differ, suggesting different detailed structure within the quintet. In contrast to the proteins, the 2-methyl model exhibits spectra at 4.2 K which imply that the lowest spin state has high susceptibility in a single direction.

Background: Healthcare expenditures have risen in middle- and high-income countries. One of the potential contributors is the overuse of diagnostics. I explore whether medical imaging is overused when privately owned clinics in Finland treat patients with voluntary private health insurance (VPHI).

In recent years, carbon dots (CDs) with fluorescence imaging function have been widely used in biomedicine, electronic manufacturing and environmental monitoring. However, monochromatic fluorescence is often limited by the application environment and loses its effectiveness. Here, we carefully designed white fluorescent CDs (WF-CDs) by solvothermal method, which is used for fluorescence imaging applications under different environmental conditions.

Background: Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is overtreated, in part because of inability to predict which DCIS cases diagnosed at core needle biopsy (CNB) will be upstaged at excision. This study aimed to determine whether quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features can identify DCIS at risk of upstaging to invasive cancer.
Methods: This prospective observational clinical trial analyzed women with a diagnosis of DCIS on CNB.

Purpose: The aim was to establish a functional MRI protocol for analyzing human stereoscopic vision in clinical practice. The feasibility was established in a cohort of 9 healthy subjects to determine the functional cortical areas responsible for virtually relief vision.
Methods: Nine healthy right-handed subjects underwent orthoptic examination and functional MRI.

Fungal lipases are the leading industrial biocatalyst due to their broad applications, but high cost limits their commercial usage. The low-cost agri-residues substrates can reduce the cost of lipase production. However, the compatibility of agri-residue with fungal species, recovery process of lipase and stability of the enzyme are crucial steps.
