Background: The pandemic response required the large-scale redeployment of nurses to support the care of patients with COVID-19. Surveys of staff and analysis of staff feedback indicated that the frequent redeployment of intensive care unit (ICU) registered nurses (RNs) led to dissatisfaction and contributed to voluntary reductions in hours and increased intentions to resign. Whilst much is understood about the redeployment of non-ICU RNs into ICUs to support patient care during periods of high demand, less is known about ICU RNs' experiences of being redeployed to general wards.

This study demonstrated a novel approach to accurately estimate 5-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in textile wastewater using a microbial consortium from food processing wastewater fixed on coconut fibers. Although glucose-glutamic acid (GGA) has been widely known as the most preferred substrates for microbial respiration, its calibration surprisingly resulted in an overestimation of BOD in textile wastewater due to its lower utilization rate compared to that of textile wastewater. After being adapted with a new nutrient environment composed of GGA and textile wastewater, the adapted packed-bed bioreactors (PBBRs) was capable of accurate estimation of BOD in textile wastewater using GGA standard solution.

In a network with low provision of critical and enhanced care beds, we aimed to assess the proportion of patients having surgery with moderate (1%-< 5%) or high (≥ 5%) predicted risk of 30-day postoperative mortality and their postoperative care location. We also aimed to study referral and admission outcomes to critical care.
