Even though the COVID-19 pandemic now belongs to the long history of infectious diseases that have struck humanity, pathogenic biological agents continue to pose a recurring threat in private places, but also and mainly in places where the public congregates. In our recent research published in this journal in 2022 and 2023, we considered the illustrative example of a commuter train coach in which a symptomatic or asymptomatic passenger, assumed to be infected with a respiratory disease, sits among other travellers. The passenger emits liquid particles containing, for example, COVID-19 virions or any other pathogen.

Promoting Positive Leadership: Examining the Long-Term Dynamics of Anti-Bullying Programs.

Prev Sci

January 2025

Department of Sociology and Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology, University of Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands.

Anti-bullying programs can create more positive classroom environments by fostering the development of positive leaders who establish constructive norms. The social identity theory of leadership addresses stability and change within different leader profiles and identifies leader group prototypicality: the extent to which leaders are perceived to embody the group identity, including standards, values, and norms. This study focuses on two key areas: (1) examining stability and change within positive and negative leader profiles, and (2) comparing transition probabilities between the KiVa anti-bullying intervention condition and a control condition.

Inclusive and supportive classroom environments are essential, particularly during political and societal crises such as wars, disinformation, polarization, and rising populism and extremism. While existing research underscores the importance of such environments, few studies comprehensively examine the impact of anti-hate speech prevention programs on classroom dynamics and students' social development. This study addressed this gap by investigating the direct and indirect effects of the HateLess anti-hate speech prevention program on inclusive classroom climate, classroom cohesion, empathy, and self-efficacy among adolescents.

Center of Studies for Interior Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying, Universiti of Technologi MARA, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.

Article Synopsis
  • Ecological psychology examines how organisms interact with their environments, providing insights into children's behaviors and perceptions.
  • This study focuses on two key concepts: affordance, which looks at how children perceive the usefulness of their surroundings, and behavior setting, which studies the relationship between children's behaviors and environmental features.
  • Existing research often misses the importance of children's immediate actions and the dynamic nature of their environments, so this study suggests a new framework to better understand these interactions, especially in childcare settings.

Peer victimization has long been recognized as a significant issue among adolescents, with potentially harmful consequences for their psychological and social well-being. However, studies adopting a longitudinal, multilevel approach to explore the complexity of peer victimization dynamics are still lacking. This study aimed to test short-term longitudinal associations between peer victimization, internalizing problems, and satisfaction with friends over the course of 6 months.
