We present a novel electrochemical dicarboxylation of epoxides with CO2, characterized by the cleavage of two C-O single bonds. Not only are vinyl epoxides viable, but cyclic carbonates also serve as effective substrates, facilitating the synthesis of E-configured adipic and octanedioic acids with high chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivity. The synthetic practicality is further highlighted by the diverse functionalizations of the resulting multifunctional diacids.

CPSF4-mediated regulation of alternative splicing of HMG20B facilitates the progression of triple-negative breast cancer.

J Transl Med

December 2024

Department of Breast Surgery, College of Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310000, Zhejiang, China.

Background: Aberrant alternative splicing (AS) contributes to tumor progression. A crucial component of AS is cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor 4 (CPSF4). It remains unclear whether CPSF4 plays a role in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) progression through AS regulation.

Polycyclic aromatic compounds and petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs) are hazardous pollutants and seriously threaten the environment and human health. However, native microbial communities can adapt to these toxic pollutants, utilize these compounds as a carbon source, and eventually evolve to degrade these toxic contaminants. With this in mind, we isolated 26 bacterial strains from various environmental soil samples.

Molecular Evolution of the H5 and H7 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus Haemagglutinin Cleavage Site Motif.

Rev Med Virol

January 2025

United States Department of Agriculture, Exotic & Emerging Avian Viral Diseases Research, Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory, United States National Poultry Research Center, Agricultural Research Service, Athens, Georgia, USA.

Avian influenza viruses are ubiquitous in the Anatinae subfamily of aquatic birds and occasionally spill over to poultry. Infection with low pathogenicity avian influenza viruses generally leads to subclinical or mild clinical disease. In contrast, highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses emerge from low pathogenic forms and can cause severe disease associated with extraordinarily high mortality rates.

Genes in microorganisms influence the biological processes in anaerobic digestion (AD). However, key genes involved in the four metabolic steps (hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis, and methanogenesis) remain largely unexplored. This study investigated the abundance and distribution of key functional genes in full-scale anaerobic digesters processing food waste (FWDs) and municipal wastewater (MWDs) through 16S rRNA gene and shotgun metagenomic analysis.
