The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a vital organelle responsible for protein quality control, including the folding, modification, and transport of proteins. When misfolded or unfolded proteins accumulate in the ER, it triggers endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and activates the unfolded protein response (UPR) to restore ER homeostasis. However, prolonged or excessive ERS can lead to apoptosis.

Enzymes of the enolase superfamily (ENS) are mechanistically diverse, yet share a common partial reaction, i.e., the metal-assisted, Bro̷nsted base-catalyzed abstraction of the α-proton from a carboxylate substrate to form an enol(ate) intermediate.

Introduction: After the neonatal period Eimeriosis is one of the most common causes of large intestinal diarrhea in calves. In contrast to neonatal calves with diarrhea, there are very few reports about the clinicopathological alterations in affected animals, which are mainly based on experimental data. The aim of the present study was therefore to characterize acid-base and related clinicopathologic alterations in calves with Eimeria-associated diarrhea and to identify variables associated with in-hospital mortality.

Respiratory and hematological physiology of day 15 chicken embryos (Gallus gallus domesticus) during water submergence and air recovery: Implications for bird embryos experiencing nest inundation.

Bird nests of coastal or inland breeding birds can temporarily flood during high tides or storms. However, respiratory physiological disruption of such water submersion and implications for post-submergence survival are poorly understood. We hypothesized that respiratory physiological disturbances caused by submersion would be rapidly corrected following return to normal gas exchange across the eggshell, thus explaining survival of nest inundation in the field.

Euglyceamic diabetic ketoacidosis (EuDKA) is an uncommon but serious diabetes mellitus complication associated with risk factors such as fasting, surgery, pregnancy and, more recently, the use of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i). This case is of a woman with type 2 diabetes and hypertension in her 50s who underwent an incarcerated umbilical hernia repair and abdominoplasty. Two days after discharge, she was readmitted with nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, low-grade fever and breathing difficulty.
