Multilayer thin films composed of dielectric BaCaZrTiO (BCZT) and oxygen-deficient BCZT (BCZT-OD) were fabricated on (001)-oriented NSTO substrates using the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. Unlike conventional approaches to energy storage capacitors, which primarily focus on compositional or structural modifications, this study explored the influence of the layer sequence and periodicity. The interface between the NSTO substrate and the BCZT-OD layer forms a Schottky barrier, resulting in electric field redistribution across the sublayers of the BCZT/BCZT-OD//(1P) thin film.

Synergizing superwetting and architected electrodes for high-rate water splitting.

Nanoscale

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California, 1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, California, 95064, USA.

Water splitting is one of the most promising technologies for generating green hydrogen. To meet industrial demand, it is essential to boost the operation current density to industrial levels, typically in the hundreds of mA cm. However, operating at these high current densities presents significant challenges, with bubble formation being one of the most critical issues.

The modification effect of concentration on the correlation between ambient ozone and psoriasis: a hospital-based time-series study.

Int J Biometeorol

January 2025

Department of Disease Prevention and Control, Daping Hospital, State Key Laboratory of Trauma and Chemical Poisoning, Army Medical University (Third Military Medical University), Changjiang Branch St, 10#, Yuzhong, Chongqing, 400042, China.

The effects of short-term ambient ozone (O) exposure on health outcomes have received growing concerns, but its effects on psoriasis is still unclear. The purpose of our study was to investigate the effects of short-term exposure to O on psoriasis, and to find out potential modifiers. A hospital-based time-series study with outpatient visit data of psoriasis was performed in Chongqing, the largest metropolitan in Southeast China.

High-entropy NASICON-Type LiAlTiZrSnTa(PO) with high electrochemical stability for lithium-ion batteries.

J Colloid Interface Sci

December 2024

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu 300044, Taiwan; High Entropy Materials Center, Hsinchu 300044, Taiwan. Electronic address:

LiAlTi (PO) (LATP) is a promising NASICON-type solid electrolyte for all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries (ASSLIBs) owing to its high ionic conductivity, low cost, and stability in ambient atmosphere. However, the electrochemical stability of LATP suffers upon contact with lithium metals, resulting in a reduction of Ti to Ti in its structure. This limitation necessitates interface modification processes, hindering its use in lithium-ion batteries.

Objective: High-density nerve cuffs have been successfully utilized to restore somatosensation in individuals with lower-limb loss by interfacing directly with the peripheral nervous system. Elicited sensations via these devices have improved various functional outcomes, including standing balance, walking symmetry, and navigating complex terrains. Deploying neural interfaces in the lower limbs of individuals with limb loss presents unique challenges, particularly due to repetitive muscle contractions and the natural range of motion in the knee and hip joints for transtibial and transfemoral amputees, respectively.
