Rhizobium etli is a nitrogen-fixing bacterium that encodes two l-asparaginases. The structure of the inducible R. etli asparaginase ReAV has been recently determined to reveal a protein with no similarity to known enzymes with l-asparaginase activity, but showing a curious resemblance to glutaminases and β-lactamases.

Different supramolecular motifs are formed by the crystallisation of amino-substituted derivatives of quinoxaline, pyrimidine and pyridazine. These were made from the corresponding mono- or dichlorinated heterocycles by a nucleophilic displacement reaction. The pyridine-type nitrogen atoms activate the chlorine atoms because they can stabilise a negative charge, which forms when the amine attacks the ring.

Latest observations indicated that exposure of organic environmental neurotoxins may increase the potential risk of Alzheimer's diseases (AD). As a suspected food-derived risk factor, permethrin, composed of cis-isomer and trans-isomer, is widely used as a broad-spectrum pyrethroid insecticide in agricultural crops for the arthropod pests controlling. Thus, evaluating the impact of permethrin exposure is of great importance to human health.

Protein A075L is a β-xylosyltransferase that participates in producing the core of the N-glycans found in VP54, the major viral capsid protein of Paramecium bursaria chlorella virus-1 (PBCV-1). In this study, we present an X-ray crystallographic analysis of the apo form of A075L, along with its complexes with the sugar donor and with a trisaccharide acceptor. The protein structure shows a typical GT-B folding, with two Rossmann-like fold domains, in which the acceptor substrate binds to the N-terminal region, and the nucleotide-sugar donor binds to the C-terminal region.

Whilst an alcohol can be forced to react with a sulfonic acid, this reaction produces minimal ester conversion even under extreme conditions (anhydrous, very low pH) that bear no resemblance to the mild synthetic procedures typically used for the formation of sulfonate salts of basic drugs. The latter involve the addition of a molar equivalent of pharma-grade sulfonic acid to the base form of a drug substance (pKa ≥3.5), dissolved or suspended in an alcohol solvent, normally ethanol (pKa -2).
