In situ bone regeneration and vertical bone augmentation have been huge problems in clinical practice, always imposing a significant economic burden and causing patient suffering. Herein, MgZnYNd magnesium alloy rod implantation in mouse femur resulted in substantial subperiosteal new bone formation, with osteoimmunomodulation playing a pivotal role. Abundant macrophages were attracted to the subperiosteal new bone region and proved to be the most important regulation cells for bone regeneration.

Magnesium-based materials, which are known for their light weight and exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, hold immense promise in the biomedical, automotive, aerospace, and military sectors. However, their inherent limitations, including low wear resistance and poor mechanical properties, have driven the development of magnesium-based metal matrix composites (Mg-MMCs). The pivotal role of powder metallurgy (PM) in fabricating Mg-MMCs was explored, enhancing their mechanical and corrosion resistance characteristics.

Next-Generation Potentiometric Sensors: A Review of Flexible and Wearable Technologies.

Biosensors (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, University of Minnesota, 207 Pleasant St. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455, USA.

In recent years, the field of wearable sensors has undergone significant evolution, emerging as a pivotal topic of research due to the capacity of such sensors to gather physiological data during various human activities. Transitioning from basic fitness trackers, these sensors are continuously being improved, with the ultimate objective to make compact, sophisticated, highly integrated, and adaptable multi-functional devices that seamlessly connect to clothing or the body, and continuously monitor bodily signals without impeding the wearer's comfort or well-being. Potentiometric sensors, leveraging a range of different solid contact materials, have emerged as a preferred choice for wearable chemical or biological sensors.

Screening and identification of two novel phosphate-solubilizing strains and their role in enhancing phosphorus uptake in rice.

Front Microbiol

January 2025

Rice Research Institute, Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences/Guangdong Key Laboratory of New Technology in Rice Breeding/Guangdong Rice Engineering Laboratory/Key Laboratory of Genetics and Breeding of High Quality Rice in Southern China (Co-construction by Ministry and Province), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guangzhou, China.

Low phosphorus (P) use efficiency significantly impacts rice yields. An environmentally friendly approach to increase phosphorus absorption and utilization in rice involves the exploration of phosphorus-solubilizing fungal resources. This study aimed to isolate and characterize fungal strains from the rice rhizosphere and assess their phosphate solubilization capabilities, plant-growth-promoting (PGP) traits, and mechanisms involved.
