Background/aims: Phenobarbital (PB), commonly used for epilepsy management, is associated with testicular dysfunction after prolonged use. This study aimed to evaluate the ameliorative effects of cranberry (CB) and vitamin C (Vit-C) on PB-induced reproductive toxicity in rats.

Methods: Forty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups.

Background: Although erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) have been the standard treatment for renal anemia, ESA hyporesponsiveness remains a concern. Hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors (HIF-PHIs) are a new class of agents indicated for renal anemia. Several lines of evidence indicate that HIF-PHIs affect erythrocyte indices; nonetheless, their clinical significance remains unclear.

Sleep disturbance causes many health problems in humans worldwide. This study evaluated the effects and possible mechanisms of sclareol (SCL) and/or linalool (LIN) through in vivo and in silico studies. For this, young chicks SCL (5, 10, and 20 mg/kg) and/or LIN (50 mg/kg) were orally administered thirty minutes before to the thiopental sodium (TS)-induced chicks with or without the standard drug diazepam (DZP: 3 mg/kg).

Identification and characterization of etomidate and metomidate metabolites in zebrafish, HLMs and S9 fraction by quadrupole-orbitrap LC-MS/MS for drug control.

J Chromatogr B Analyt Technol Biomed Life Sci

January 2025

Food and Drug Anti-doping Laboratory, China Anti-doping Agency, 1st Anding Road, Chaoyang District, 100029 Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Etomidate is a common non-barbiturate anesthetic with psychoactivity, and metomidate, a structural modifier of etomidate, also has the same psychoactive effect, and the abuse of both has gradually intensified. In this study, etomidate, metomidate and their metabolic profiles with 4 days postfertilization (4dpf) zebrafish, 4 months postfertilization (4mpf) zebrafish, human liver microsomes (HLMs) and human liver S9 fraction were investigated using Liquid chromatography with high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) for the first time. 14 etomidate metabolites and 11 metomidate metabolites were found, and the related metabolic pathways included monohydroxylation, dihydroxylation, dehydrogenation, N-dealkylation, O-dealkylation, oxidation, N-glucuronidation, O-glucuronidation and combination.

Trans-Ferulic acid reduces the sedative activity of diazepam in thiopental sodium-induced sleeping mice: A potential GABAergic transmission.

Neurotoxicol Teratol

December 2024

Department of Pharmacy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Gopalganj 8100, Bangladesh; Bioinforamtics and Drug Innovation Laboratory, BioLuster Research Center Ltd., Gopalganj 8100, Dhaka, Bangladesh; Pharmacy Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna, Bangladesh. Electronic address:

trans-Ferulic acid (TFA), a bioactive compound found in many plants, has been recognized for its diverse pharmacological activities, including potential neurological benefits. Previous studies suggest that TFA exerts anxiolytic effects via GABAergic pathways. This study aimed to investigate the sedative effects of TFA and its possible molecular mechanisms through in vivo and in silico approaches.
