Purpose: The aim of this study was twofold: first, to evaluate the predisposing factors for occurrence of malignant glaucoma and second, to compare frequency of malignant glaucoma depending on the type of primary glaucoma surgery.
Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed in 1689 consecutive patients who underwent glaucoma surgery alone or combined with phacoemulsification. Data collected included the type of surgery, width of the filtration angle, presence or absence of malignant glaucoma in the postoperative period, and time from the primary surgery to malignant glaucoma occurrence.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFSurgical technique and clinical results of a new antiglaucomatous operation--so called trabeculectomy connected with an intraseleral iridencleisis are presented. The lowering of the intraocular pressure after the operation was obtained in 96% of the operated patients, in 88% of them without any additional pharmacological treatment. The complications rate was comparable with those which are occuring after trabeculectomy or iridencleisis.

In 78 eyes treated by different fistulizing procedures (57 by goniotrepanation or trabeculectomy, 13 by Elliot trepanation and 8 by iridencleisis) extracapsular cataract extraction with implantation of posterior chamber lenses was performed. A sector iridectomy had to be performed in about 40% of the eyes because of difficulties in dilatation of the pupils and posterior synechiae. Postoperatively the IOP was regulated in 83% of all eyes without additional topical medication; a second fistulizing procedure was only necessary in one eye.
