Macrophages are an integral part of the innate immune system and act as a first line of defense to pathogens; however, macrophages can be reservoirs for pathogens to hide and replicate. Tuberculosis, influenza virus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are common diseases whose pathogens are uptaken into macrophages. Current treatments for diseases such as these are limited by the therapeutic delivery method, which typically involves systemic delivery in large, frequent doses.

Previous studies have suggested that anionic membrane charge is necessary for this binding. However, these studies largely focus on unmodified αSyn, while nearly all αSyn in the body is N-terminally acetylated (NTA).

Cryptococci are intrinsically resistant to the latest generation of antifungals, echinocandins, while , a notorious global threat, is also increasingly resistant. We performed a natural product extract screen for rescue of the activity of the echinocandin caspofungin against H99, identifying butyrolactol A, which restores echinocandin efficacy against resistant fungal pathogens, including .

The use of cannabis-related products is currently experiencing extraordinary growth in popularity in the European and US markets. A wide variety of cannabis-related products have emerged, including oils, tinctures, edibles, topicals, cosmetics, and even beverages and sweets, offering the purported medical benefits without the psychoactive effects associated with Cannabis sativa. However, there is a significant gap in our understanding of bioaccumulation processes and their long-term effects, particularly as cannabinoids are highly lipophilic molecules.

Due to the fact that association colloids were formed in krill oil, the oxidation mechanism of krill oil was more complicated. In this study, water-soluble ferrous sulfate (Fe(SO)), oil-soluble ferrous fumarate (CHFeO) and insoluble ferric oxide (FeO) were added to krill oil and stored at 60 °C for accelerated oxidation. Peroxide value, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and aldehyde content showed that Fe(SO) had a stronger pro-oxidative effect.
