The mean daily blood concentrations were calculated for each hormone. The activity of the enzymatic systems of steroidogenesis was estimated from the ratio of the mean daily concentrations of the precursor of an enzymatic reaction to those of its product.

Surgery is the main method of treatment of most diseases of the adrenals, therefore problems of topical intraoperative diagnosis are very urgent. Twenty-three patients were operated on for Itsenko-Cushing's disease and syndrome and tumors of the retroperitoneal space at the Faculty Surgical Clinic of the Moscow Medical Academy within a period of 12 months.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe authors represent the results of the treatment of 20 children with Itsenko-Cushing disease (ICD) by proton-beam irradiation of the pituitary body. The use of the medical proton beam of the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics was found to be effective for the treatment of children with mild and average forms of ICD. Irradiation of the pituitary gland at a dose of 70-100 Gy is accompanied by general and local radiation reactions which are not dangerous for children.
