Evaluating low NO hydrogen engines designed for off-road and construction applications.

Environ Sci Process Impacts

January 2025

Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratories, University of York, Heslington, York, YO10 5DD, UK.

Hydrogen internal combustion engines offer a near-term decarbonisation pathway for hard to electrify sectors such as non-road mobile machinery (NRMM). However, few hydrogen-specific engines have ever been developed with the twin-goals of maximising low carbon energy efficiency and delivering air quality co-benefits. We present analyses of dynamometer-derived nitrogen oxides (NO) tailpipe emissions from four variants of a ∼55 kW four-cylinder port fuelled injection spark ignition hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2ICE) suitable for a range of uses within the NRMM industry.

Background: Access to essential healthcare services is pertinent to the achievement of universal health coverage in any nation. The COVID-19 lockdown was used to mitigate the spread of the pandemic. Consequently, there was a reduction in the Utilisation of Basic Healthcare Services (UBHS) in diverse dimensions.

Tolerability and effectiveness of face-masks in reducing cough aerosols for children with cystic fibrosis.

J Cyst Fibros

January 2025

The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; Child Health Research Centre, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Electronic address:

Background: People with cystic fibrosis (CF) are recommended to wear face-masks when in healthcare settings. We previously demonstrated that face-masks significantly reduce the release of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) aerosols during coughing in adults with CF.

Floating photovoltaics strongly reduce water temperature: A whole-lake experiment.

J Environ Manage

January 2025

Floating photovoltaics (FPVs), solar panels installed on floating structures in freshwater ecosystems such as lakes, represent a growing renewable technology aimed at decarbonizing the energy sector. However, robust empirical assessments of its environmental effects are still lacking. We used a Before-After-Control-Impact design replicated at the ecosystem level (n = 6 lakes: three lakes with FPV compared to three non-FPV lakes) to determine the global effects of FPV on water temperature over three years and allowing to isolate FPV effects from natural variability.

Heteroatom sulfur-doping in single-atom FeNC catalysts for durable oxygen reduction performance in zinc-air batteries.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Department of Chemistry & Institute for Sustainable Energy, College of Sciences, Shanghai University, Shanghai 200444, PR China. Electronic address:

Heteroatom doping into the transition metal-based catalysts is an effective strategy to improve the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics. Herein, we proposed a one-step, soft template assisted, and green method for the synthesis of Sulfur (S) doped single atom FeNC catalyst. XAFS demonstrated that the Fe active sites in the FeNSC were more likely to possess the Fe-N configuration.
