Bovine tuberculosis (BTB) is an infectious disease of livestock and wildlife species that is caused by pathogenic members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex such as Mycobacterium bovis. Due to the introduction of M. bovis-infected bison in the 1920s, BTB is now endemic in wood bison (Bison bison athabascae) population within the Wood Buffalo National Park (WBNP) in northern Canada.

Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is a critical stage of tuberculosis infection in which Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is dormant and does not cause active disease. Traditionally, the most commonly used clinical methods for diagnosing LTBI have been the tuberculin skin test (TST) and the interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA). Recently, however, novel skin tests, molecular biology techniques, and cytokine biomarkers have been developed.

Pesticides, including fipronil, are used mainly in agriculture; however, in veterinary and animal husbandry, their potential use is to control the pests responsible for vector-borne diseases. Their residues in agriculture products and direct use on farms are responsible for potentially harming livestock and poultry. So, this study was designed to evaluate the toxico-pathological effects of fipronil on the immune system of poultry birds.

Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis , is the most significant infectious cause of mortality across the globe. While TB disease can prey on immunocompetent individuals, it is more likely to occur in immunocompromised individuals. Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) are a group of diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, autoimmune blistering diseases, and others) where there may be a need for systemic immunosuppression to control the disease manifestations, treat symptoms and improve long term outcomes.

Methods: Using a TB household contact (HHC) study design among 130 Ugandan children less than 5 years with established -exposure, we compared the usefulness of the tuberculin skin test (TST) and QuantiFERON Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) to identify children with evidence for -sensitization.
