Placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) is a rare placental pathology that sonographically mimics gestational trophoblastic diseases. However, mesenchymal dysplasia can be distinguished from other conditions by the presence of villous edema and the absence of trophoblastic proliferation in the placental tissue. This pathology has been demonstrated to be associated with fetal growth restriction, Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, some chromosomal abnormalities and intrauterine fetal demise.

Background: Liver transplantation for unresectable, benign hepatic lesions is rare. Hepatic mesenchymal hamartomas (HMH) are benign, cystic tumors that arise mostly in pediatric populations and can cause compressive symptoms. HMH is rarely associated with placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) and Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS).

Article Synopsis
  • * The study reveals new methods for processing methyl groups in terpenoids, through a combination of silylation and oxidation, leading to various transformations such as substitution and integration of the methyl carbon.
  • * These processes not only allow for the creation of novel chemical structures with expanded rings but also show potential applications in medicinal chemistry by adding functional groups to complex compounds.

Placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD), rare vascular and connective tissue placental anomaly can be associated with fetal intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), stillbirth, Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS), some chromosomal abnormalities, or phenotypically and genetically normal fetuses [1]. We reviewed a PMD case from our institution characterized by a previously undescribed chromosomal abnormality along with an unreported histopathologic finding.
