The concentration of corticotropin and cortisol in the blood was determined 120 patients with Itsenko-Cushing radioimmunologically after insulin hypoglycemia, after administration of insulin and thyroliberin. It was established that healthy persons and patients with Itsenko-Cushing disease showed no differences in the effect of insulin and thyroliberin as compared with insulin hypoglycemia on the state of the pituitary-adrenal system.

A study was made of the psychoendocrine factor of pathogenesis of patients suffering from cerebral obesity with a hyperphagic reaction to stress and without it. The purpose was to study the hypothalamo-hypophyseo-adrenal system, emotional-personality features and motivation sphere in patients with cerebral obesity as compared to a control group. The following methods of examination were used: cliniconeurological examination, psychological methods--MIL test, Spilberger's test, a radioimmunoassay for determination of the blood levels of ACTH, STH, prolaction and cortisol at rest and under experimentally simulated stress.

A study was made of the effect of a chronic stress on the activity of the hypothalamo-hypophyseo-adrenal system in pregnant rats as well as on the development of its function in the progeny in postnatal ontogenesis. Experiments were made on pregnant Wistar rats and their progeny. A chronic stress in the 2nd half of pregnancy has been shown to have a detrimental effect on function of the hypothalamo-hypophyseo-adrenal system not only of pregnant animals but also of their progeny, particularly in early periods of postnatal development.

Functional state of the hypothalamic-hypophyseal-adrenal system and the thymus was studied in thymic hypo- and hyperplasia of guinea pigs. It was detected that thymomegalia is accompanied by STH and prolactin hyperproduction in adeno-hypophysis, intensified lymphopoiesis (at the expense of T-lymphocytes) and the adrenal glucocorticoid function inhibition, resultant of the lowered ACTH secretion, as well as by the enhanced catecholamine and serotonin content in the hypothalamus. Reverse changes are seen in thymic hypoplasia following intramuscular ACTH injection in a dose 1 U/kg/day within 5 to 10 days.
