Microvirin is a lectin molecule known to have monovalent interaction with glycoprotein gp120. A previously reported high-resolution structural analysis defines the mannobiose-binding cavity of Microvirin. Nonetheless, structure does not directly define the energetics of binding contributions of protein contact residues.

Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease and the second most common parasitic disease after malaria. While praziquantel remains the primary treatment, concerns about drug resistance highlight the urgent need for new drugs and effective vaccines to achieve sustainable control. Previous proteomic studies from our group revealed that the expression of glycosyltransferase and nicastrin as proteins was higher in single-sex males than mated males, suggesting their critical roles in parasite reproduction and their potential as vaccine candidates.

Tuberculosis (TB), a human and animal disease caused by (), has the highest global mortality rate after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and poses a major public health threat globally. Since 1890, vaccine candidates for various forms of TB have been developed for different age groups, but these vaccine candidates have not provided intended protection in adolescents and adults in clinical trials. To help prevent and control the spread of TB, the development of a safe and effective TB vaccine is imperative.

Sequences and three-dimensional structures of the four vertebrate arrestins are very similar, yet in sharp contrast to other subtypes, arrestin-1 demonstrates exquisite selectivity for the active phosphorylated form of its cognate receptor, rhodopsin. The N-terminus participates in receptor binding and serves as the anchor of the C-terminus, the release of which facilitates arrestin transition into a receptor-binding state. We tested the effects of substitutions of fourteen residues in the N-terminus of arrestin-1 on the binding to phosphorylated and unphosphorylated light-activated rhodopsin of wild-type protein and its enhanced mutant with C-terminal deletion that demonstrates higher binding to both functional forms of rhodopsin.

Protocadherin-7 (Pcdh7) is a member of the non-clustered protocadherin δ1 subgroup within the cadherin superfamily. Pcdh7 has been shown to control osteoclast differentiation via the protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A)-glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK3β)-small GTPase signaling axis. As protocadherins serve multiple biological functions, a deeper understanding of Pcdh7's biological features is valuable.
