The activity of some blood hormones was determined by radioimmune analysis in 58 patients with chronic ischemic heart disease (CIHD), 60 patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and in 24 practically healthy individuals. Increased activity of pituitary hormones (ACTH and TTH) with simultaneous increase in the blood STH content in the absence of essential changes in the FSH and LH content was established. These shifts in the production of pituitary hormones are evidently due both to disorders in the hypothalamo-hypophyseal area and to changes in the activity of systems coordinated to the pituitary gland in patients with CIHD. In patients with MI the activity of these hormones in blood does not differ from that in the control group. In patients with CIHD, the activity of the thyroid is diminished due to a decrease in its thyroxin-producing ability against the background of high activity of the pituitary thyreotropic function. The discussed shifts in the activity of some hormones in CIND and MI are conducive to the advancement of atherosclerosis and changes in myocardial metabolism.

Fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) are a class of small molecular mass intracellular lipid chaperone proteins that bind to hydrophobic ligands, such as long-chain fatty acids. FABP5 expression was significantly upregulated in the N-methyl-d-aspartic acid (NMDA) model, the microbead-induced chronic glaucoma model, and the DBA/2J mice. Previous studies have demonstrated that FABP5 can mediate mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in ischemic neurons, but the role of FABP5 in oxidative stress and cell death in retina NMDA injury models is unclear.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Meta-analyses have suggested that the risk of cardiovascular disease events is significantly higher after a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation, but the populations at highest risk have not been well characterized to date.
Methods And Results: The authors analyzed the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) hospitalizations after COPD hospitalization compared with before COPD hospitalization and patient factors associated with ASCVD hospitalizations after COPD hospitalization among 2 high-risk patient cohorts. The primary outcome was risk of an ASCVD hospitalization composite outcome (myocardial infarction, coronary artery bypass graft, percutaneous coronary intervention, stroke, transient ischemic accident) after COPD hospitalization relative to before COPD hospitalization.

Objective: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have an increased risk of adverse cardio-cerebrovascular events. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the prognostic predictors over 5 years in patients with CKD including haemodialysis.
Methods: In this multicenter, prospective cohort study performed with the Gunma-CKD SPECT Study protocol, 311 patients with CKD [estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 min/ml/1.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex neurodegenerative disease marked by increased amyloid-β (Aβ) deposition, tau hyperphosphorylation, impaired energy metabolism, and chronic ischemia-type injury. Cerebral microvascular dysfunction likely contributes to AD pathology, but its precise pathogenic role has been poorly defined.
Objective: To examine microvascular reactivity to endothelium-dependent vasodilators and small conductance calcium-activated potassium (SK) channel activity in an intracerebral streptozotocin (STZ)-induced AD mouse model.

Objectives: Patients with advanced chronic kidney disease suffer from hypertension, and kidney transplantation (KT) has potential to induce hypertension resolution. We hypothesized that hypertension resolution after KT is associated with better KT outcomes.
Methods: We identified KT recipients (2006-2015) who had pretransplant hypertension.
