Highly fluorinated naphthyl aldehyde and binaphthyl aldehyde ()- were designed and synthesized for fluorous-phase-based sensing. Greatly enhanced sensitivity and chemoselectivity in going from to ()- in the fluorescent detection of cysteine has been discovered. This is attributed to the increased structural rigidity of the axially chiral binaphthyl unit in ()- upon reaction with cysteine to form the corresponding thiazolidine product.

ADP-ribosylation is a complex post-translational modification involved in key physiological processes and associated with various health and disease states. The growing interest in ADP-ribosylation necessitates straightforward and efficient synthetic methods for the preparation of ADP-ribosylated peptides/proteins. In this study, we report a facile reaction between nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) and alcohols promoted by a combination of ionic liquids, yielding up to 94% with α:β ratios ranging from 88:12 to 99:1 and a switchable configuration selectivity.

Conventional carbon dots (CDs) typically exhibit substantial variations in fluorescence intensity across different pH. This limitation underscores the pressing need for advancements in their stability and performance under diverse environmental conditions. Herein, l-cysteine and neutral red are selected as precursors, and three kinds of CDs, which can emit red, orange, and green fluorescent light (assigned as r-CD, o-CD, g-CD, respectively), are synthesized by simply changing the reaction conditions.

Nitrile-aminothiol bioorthogonal near-infrared fluorogenic probes for ultrasensitive in vivo imaging.

Nat Commun

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Anti-Infective Drug Discovery and Development, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.

Bioorthogonal chemistry-mediated self-assembly holds great promise for dynamic molecular imaging in living organisms. However, existing approaches are limited to nanoaggregates with 'always-on' signals, suffering from high signal-to-background ratio (SBR) and compromised detection sensitivity. Herein we report a nitrile-aminothiol (NAT) bioorthogonal fluorogenic probe (CyNA-SS-FK) for ultrasensitive diagnosis of orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma.

An electrochemiluminescence biosensor based on silver-cysteine nanorod as an emitter and AgNP-decorated FeMoO as a signal amplifier for sensitive detection of heart-type fatty acid binding protein.

Mikrochim Acta

December 2024

State Key Laboratory for Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Medicinal Resources, Key Laboratory for Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Medicinal Resources (Ministry of Education of China), Collaborative Innovation Center for Guangxi Ethnic Medicine, School of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Guangxi Normal University, Guilin, 541004, China.

An electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor was developed for the highly sensitive and specific detection of heart-type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) and the rapid diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). H-FABP is a biomarker that is highly specific to cardiac tissue and is associated with a range of cardiac diseases. Following myocardial injury, the rate of increase in H-FABP levels is greater than that observed for myoglobin and troponin.
