Background: This study examines the influence of prematurity and diabetes (DM) in pregnancy on metabolite patterns at birth, and associations with adiposity development in a prospective cohort.
Methods: Term and preterm (30-36 weeks gestational age [GA]) infants were enrolled and body composition assessments completed through discharge. Targeted metabolomics was used to assess metabolites in cord or infant blood in the first 2 days.

Upper thermal tolerance may be limited by convective oxygen transport in fish, but the mechanisms constraining heart function remain elusive. The activation of anaerobic metabolism imposes an osmotic stress on cardiomyocytes at high temperatures that must be countered to prevent swelling and cardiac dysfunction. We tested the hypothesis that cardiac taurine efflux is required to counter the osmotic impact of anaerobic end product accumulation in brook char, Salvelinus fontinalis.

Rumen-protected glucose (RPG) and taurine (TAU) are crucial for the nutrition and physiology of ruminants, enhancing production performance and mitigating negative energy balance. This study aimed to assess the impact of RPG levels and TAU supplementation on the body weight, antioxidant capacity, immune function and stress responses in yaks before and after transport. Thirty-two healthy male yaks, aged 3 years and weighing 172.

Transporters are critical for maintaining the homeostasis of metabolites within cells, organelles, and extracellular fluids. Various transporters have been targeted for development as pharmaceutical therapies, including glucose transporter (SLC5A2/SGLT2) and urate transporter (SLC22A12/URAT1). The solute carrier transporter family includes many orphan transporters with unknown physiological functions and substrates, largely because of the difficulties in optimizing the transporter probes and constructing convenient evaluation systems for functional analysis.

Three extruded dog diets were created for a nutritional study with different primary protein sources (BAS: lamb meal (LM) and deboned lamb (DL); CHK: chicken meal, LM, and DL; PEA: dried ground pea, LM, and DL). All diets were processed using the same single-screw extruder, shipped from the processing facility on the same day, and transported under the same conditions in January 2021. After 8 months of storage in a temperature and humidity-controlled room in September 2021, only the PEA diet was molded upon inspection.
